Distributed energy storage systems (ESS) can make a major contribution to the energy revolution. However, the operating methods currently used usually only offer naive strategies that only take into account the current situation behind the electric meter. The aim of the project is to use integrated business models to exploit the great potential ESS for both the end user and the distribution system operator (DSO). To this end, innovative charging and discharging algorithms are being developed that optimize the own consumption of solar energy and the control of variable loads. “Pooling” the distributed storage flexibility also makes it possible to participate in the energy market. In addition, an open data platform for anonymous energy data will be created in order to make the data publicly accessible for research purposes. The project is based on the open source energy management system OpenEMS (www.openems.io), which is being further developed as part of the project.
This work is supported by solar irradiance data from Solcast.
