Conceptual and expert advice on the reception of the Nibelungen in cultural projects in Passau

The festival Europäische Wochen is resurrecting the Song of the Nibelungs, compiled from a large number of web videos. The team at the Professorship of Medieval German Literature has been participating and offering its expert advice.

The team at the Professorship of Medieval German Literature has taken part in the "Passau Project" of the festival Europäische Wochen and recorded the first canto with Kriemhild's famous falcon dream from the Song of the Nibelungs with distributed roles in Middle High German. The project is about having this heroic epic poem, which was written in Passau in about 1200, recorded stanza for stanza by volunteer Nibelungen fans with their web cam or mobile phone camera. The final aim is to edit all 39 cantos into a web video. In this project initiative, Professor Andrea Sieber has been giving expert advice to the artistic director of the Europäische Wochen, Dr. Carsten Gerhard.
