Conference Series

With its three-tier conference series "Global Data Law", the Research Centre for Law and Digitalisation (FREDI) opens a platform to discuss data law and data policies with a global perspective. Global, regional, and national developments will be identified and evaluated with international experts.

PART III: COMPARATIVE DATA LAW

The final part of the series, Comparative Data Law, will shift the focus and tackle Data Law from a Comparative Law perspective. Different instruments, different approaches, global effects of different kinds of regulation, and possible ways forward will be discussed.

The co-organised conference with the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition will take place in Munich from 07 to 08 December 2023.

PART II: AFRICAN DATA PROTECTION LAWS: REGULATION, PRACTICE, AND POLICY

The second part of the series ‘Global Data Law’, the African Data Protection Laws: Regulation, Practice, and Policy Conference has taken place at the University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana from 13th-15th September 2022. 

The Conference spotlighted the developments of Data Law in Africa and opened a platform to discuss not only data protection laws and policies but also data-related issues emerging in Africa, specifically, data governance, data localization, and the digital economy, with a pan-African perspective.

PART I: GLOBAL DATA STRATEGIES

The kick-off of the series has engaged with Global Data Strategies 
and has taken place at FREDI's home institution, the University of Passau
on September 20th and 21st 2021.
