Research Center for Law and Digitalization
The law faces challenges with digital transformation in almost every area: The public administration and the government’s business processes are increasingly rearranged into electronic communication by e-government laws. The private law’s contract typology is questioned by the recognizing data as a consideration in mutual contracts. The discussion about the legal personality of autonomous systems investigates the conditions of legal capacity. Media law is challenged by phenomena such as data driven and robotic journalism, user-generated content and possibly emerging filter bubbles. One of the major concerns is designing technical environments in accordance with the law and reshaping legal institutions wherever the technical progression inflicts the necessity. The changes in society and economics that are caused by digitalization can only happen in close cooperation with those practicing said changes. That is why the research center aims at a tight collaboration with regional businesses as well as building national and international networks. The process of digital transformation is observed from two different perspectives in this respect: as a subject of research and as an object of active and practical contribution. Because digital networks do not stop at national borders, it is particularly important to take the international dimension into account while observing transforming processes within the digitalization.
