Professor Malte Steinbrink passed away on 4 May 2023. Here we are documenting examples of his research work at the University of Passau. This is what he said about his research interests:

'My social and cultural-geographic research interests centre around processes of urban and regional development and questions relating to migration and tourism, which I also work on and integrate against the backdrop of globalisation and North / South relations. For many years, I have been doing research in various countries of the global South, especially Sub-Saharan Africa. In the sense of application-oriented basic research, the work I do pursues the aim of promoting an empirically sound theoretical discussion and at the same time creating a connection to praxis. Core concepts in my research are mobility, networking and inequality. The main points of emphasis in my work can be allocated to the thematic fields of development research, tourism geography, migration research, urban research, socio-environment research and scientific observation.'
